Maruti Gypsy is an all-wheel drive sport utility vehicle based on long wheelbase Suzuki Jimny SJ410/40 series automobiles. It is designed, developed and engineered by Maruti Suzuki in India and was originally launched in 1985 with F10A 970cc Suzuki powerplant. It was codenamed MG410 that stood for 1l0 litre four-cylinder Gypsy engine. Originally, the Gypsy was offered only as soft top, however a bolt on hardtop was introduced later to the public after hardtop vehicles became famous. The Premier Padmini was instantly replaced by Gypsy as a prototypical Indian rally vehicle because of its go-anywhere capability, performance, tunability and reliability.
