Introduced couple of years after the start of new millennium, the original Mitsubishi Outlander was a late arrival to the small sport utility vehicle class. As with most of its rivals, the Outlander had a carlike design, which translated into a comfortable ride and good handling on paved roads, however limited off-road ability. With so many rivals, the automaker tried to set it apart with a sporty demeanor and unique styling. Unlike other famous vehicles from Japanese automakers, Toyota and Honda, the previous Outlander provided less cabin space, while their 4-cylinder breathless powerplants failed to live up to the company’s sporting image.
