One of the pioneering models in the compact hatchback class, the Volkswagen Golf has had a bit of roller coaster ride all through its life. Introduced back in the year 1974 in Europe, the Golf came to America after a year wearing Rabbit nameplate. Coinciding with a facelift and after a decade, the automaker shifted to North American variant to official Golf name. After marketing 3 generations of Golf in 2006 to American shoppers, the company had nostalgic feeling and renamed its economy vehicle, the Rabbit for American market.
