Bentley Today –

 

Bentley is based in Crewe, England. Currently, Bugatti is the largest competitor of this popular automotive brand.  The majority of automotives are produced being right hand drive. When the company was acquired by the VW Group, the production capacity of Bentley was increased which helped to modernize a Crewe factory.

 

Till this date, VW Group has invested approximately US $2 billion in Bentley as well as in its revival. The sales of Bentley continued to rise and in the year 2005, the company sold around 8,654 units of cars worldwide. The sales of Bentley were continuously increased and in the year 2005, company sold around 8,627 units of vehicles worldwide.

 

Dirk van Braeckel is its current head of the designing team. Company is planning to launch the new range of Azure and Brooklands based on the latest Mulsanne platform. According to the company report, Bentley is all set with its new Series that is based on Continental platform.

 

Before 2010, Bentley employed around 3,500 at Crewe and in the year 1998, there were more than 1,500 being taken over by V. In April 2005, company declared certain plans to manufacture the Azure, a 4 - seat convertible. This model was developed from the range of Arnage Drophead Coupe.

 

In 2005, Bentley presented the successful version of the Continental GTC. Both these models were launched in the year 2006. Sales of Bentley continued to rise and during the year 2005, company sold 8,627 units of cars worldwide. In the year 2007, this manufacturer broke its record of sales as Bentley sold 10,014 units of vehicles.

 

Company is planning to launch a new car which will be based on the range of Porsche Panamera. Bentley is more focusing on its hybrid technology and the owners are developing a replacement for the Azure and Brooklands. The latest GT range is all set to hit the automobile market.

 

Bentley History –

 

Bentley Motors Limited is the famous British auto manufacturer which was founded on January 18, 1919 by Walter Owen. In August 1919, Bentley was registered Bentley Motors Limited had been earlier well known for their range of rotary aero engine during the World War II.

 

In the year 1924, company designed and manufactured the winning range of 24 Hours of Le Mans.

 

Initially, this organization always was underfunded.

 

During 1925, Bentley took help from his friend customer, Woolf Barnato, who was also known as a racing driver and son of millionaire. After their financial deal, Barnato became a chairman of Bentley.

 

Initially, Bentley was owned by Rolls – Royce from the year 1931.

 

In 1931, Bentley was owned by Rolls - Royce but in the year 1998, Volkswagen Group owned this leading manufacturing company. Earlier Bentley had been in partnership with H.M. Bentley, his brother and selling various DFP French vehicles. But, he wanted to build his own range bearing his name.

 

The reputation of Bentley was maintained by Bentley Boys which included group of wealthy British Motorists such as Woolf Barnato, Steeple chaser George Duller, Sir Henry Birkin, automobile journalist S.C.H. Davis, Dr. Dudley Benjafield and aviator Glen Kidson. To avoid the competition, Rolls - Royce bought Bentley Motors.

 

The production of Bentley cars was shifted to the ex - wartime engine plant which was situated in Crewe, Cheshire. The range of Bentley Continental coupe was specially manufactured for the domestic home market.

 

From 1980, Bentley successfully maintained their sporting image. By the year 1986, the ration between Bentley : Rolls - Royce had achieved 40:60.

 

Since 1998, Bentley has been purchased by the leading Volkswagen Group. It is the wealthy group of British Motorists which is called as the ‘Bentley Boys’. Till the time of World War II, Bentley did not produce the range of complete cars.

 

In the year 2002, company presented an Official State Limousine to Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. The production capacity of Crewe factory was about 9500 units of automotives per year.

 

From 2001 to 2003, the company enjoyed the successful racing streak in the Le Mans Series because of the range of Bentley Speed 8.

 

Earlier Bentley was seen in famous media as the car of James Bond, “The Punisher”,”The Hangover”,”Rushmore”,”The Dark Knight”,"The Thomas Crown Affair"and ”The Longest Yard.
