Chevrolet brand was produced by General Motors and it is the top selling product of GM. This leading maker is well known for its range of commercial medium duty trucks and subcompact cars. Headquarters of this company is located in Detroit. This successful brand is the part of NASCAR. From the year 2010, the slogan of this company is ‘Chevrolet Runs Deep’ and the tagline is ‘Excellence for Everyone’. Klavika is the marketing type of Chevy.
Currently, Chevrolet division is retrieving from the financial downturn of 2007 to 2010. Chevrolet achieved World Green Car of the year and 2012 North American Car of the year. At the famous 2011 North American Auto Show, company showcased latest Aveo version. In April 2011, Chevy disclosed the 9th generation of Chevrolet Malibu in New York and on the Facebook page of company. The annual sales of Chevy are around 4.25 million cars which were delivered in around 120 countries.
For 2011 – 2013, Chevrolet is planning to launch the new range of Spark, Sonic, and 9th Generation of Malibu. The project of latest Cruz model is in a production phase. In the year 2010, Chevy changed its advertising agency to Publicis Worldwide from Campbell – Ewald. Willim C. Durant and Louis Chevrolet were the co – founder of Chevrolet on November 3, 1911. Louise Chevrolet was the famous race car who was born on 25 Dcember 1878, in Switzerland. General Motors was founded by William Durant, but had been forced to leave GM in the year 1910. William Durant wanted to use designs of Louis Chevrolet to rebuild the reputation of this brand. During November 1911, Louis Chevrolet, Edwin Cambell, and William Durant were incorporated Chevrolet Motors.
In 1916, Chevrolet owned around 54.5 percent of outstanding shares of GM and took the charge from Charles W. Walsh, GM President. GM bought all the operating assets of Chevrolet Company in May 1918.
From 1921, GM proceeded with the application of copper-cooled engine of Kettering and in 1923; this project was officially closed down.
In Copenhagen, GM established its first European manufacturing plant in the year 1923. This plant was specially built for sale in the Baltics, Germany, Russia, Austria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary. The Chevrolet utility truck was the first automotive of GM which was assembled outside the Canada and U.S.
From 1924, William S. Knudsen joined GM Board of Directors and became president of Chevrolet.
Chevy introduced the six - cylinder engine in its commercial models during 1929.
In 1935, the Suburban Carryall was launched and to compete in the field of low – price vehicles, company introduced the powerglide transmission in 1950.
In 1953, Corvette was launched which was the first volume production car that had plastic body.
On 1955 trucks, Chevy introduced the small – block V8 engine in the year 1954.
In 1958, Chevy introduced the EL Camino model which was specially designed with the utility of pickup truck.
Company launched the Corvair model in the year 1959.
In 1962; Chevy launched its range of the Chevy II, smaller cars.
In 1963, Chevrolet introduced midsize Malibu as the 1964 model.
In the year 1966, Chevy launched the F – body Camaro as the 1967 model.
Chevrolet Motor Division and Fisher Body were operated truck assembly and six passenger car plant up to 1967. But, this assemble pant was transferred to the GM management of Assembly GM Division.
In September 1967, Chevy launched its range of luxury cars.
In 1969, Chevy declared that company soon discontinued the Corvair production.
In October 1975, company launched its Chevette, U.S. – built T – car and it was designed by Opel and manufactured by subsidiaries of GM in Brazil, England, and Argentina. This model was sold under the names Chevette, Kadett, K – 180, and Gemini.
In 1979, GM launched compact cars with front – wheel drive. To take the responsibility of engineering, sales, manufacture, service and design, Worldwide Truck and Bus Group was formed during 1981.
In 1982, the assembly and manufacturing operations of Chevrolet Motor Division, GMC Truck and Coach Division and GM Assembly Division were included in truck and bus manufacturing division. Headquarters are to be situated in Pontiac, Michigan.
In 1983, Toyota Motor Corporation and GM signed a deal for joint venture, New United Motor Manufacturing to produce small – size vehicles in its Fremont production plant. Earlier, this plant was operated by GM.
The Geo range of small automotives such as Spectrum, Tracker, and Geo Metro were launched in 1988.
In the year 1993, GM and Toyota signed the unprecedented supply and sales contract and according to this agreement, GM produced Chevrolet Cavalier, right – hand drive vehicle in the U.S. on the other hand, Toyota purchased all these models from GM and sold them in Japanese automotive market.
GM declared that the Ste. Therese, Quebec plant which manufactured Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro will close in September 2002. During 2002, company celebrated fiftieth anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette model.
In 2003, General Motors declared that the 2005 GMC Envoy XL, Chevrolet trailblazer EXT and Envoy XUV model were based on the fuel saving technology without sacrificing the ability to transport heavy loads.
During 2004, Chevrolet Corvette was announced as the official pace car for the famous classic Indianapolis 500 race.
