Bmw Z4 Review

The BMW Z4 is a car that will definitely take your breath away. With its sharp and long front end, this two seater is quite stunning in looks. The front features the BMW twin grilles, while the bonnet features a lot of creases in it. The day time running head lights are from Corona. The air dams are quite subtle, compared to the overall car; however, it does not feature any fog lights for its Indian variant.

This beautiful car rests on 18 inch wheels with tyres measuring 225/40 to 255/35, and is of a light weight construction materials. The BMW logo is actually placed on the side of the car instead of the usual front. Like the bonnet, the sides of the car also carry many creased into them. As for the tail lights, they features LEDs, while the boot features an integrated stop light. The car features two tail pipes with the rear bumpers housing the reflectors.

While other BMW variants feature their variant moniker on them, this one does away with it, and only carries the Z4 tag. The interior is also greatly furnished with luxurious materials. BMW also simplifies the interiors, by placing less buttons in it, and outline the functions quite clearly. This definitely goes with the car's sporty appeal. The dials look quite beautiful in the dark, when they light up.

The seats are upholstered in soft white suede leather. Even with the car's compact appearance, it is quite roomy for tall people, and also easy to climb into its seats. The seats can be programmed in six different ways, and also feature memory functions. As this roadster has a hard top, it features sun reflective technology in the cabin. The car also boasts of many paint coats and utilises many non-abrasive materials, reportedly adding around 9 kgs to the car's overall weight.

The steering wheel is a three spoke model encased in leather and featuring a chrome insert in the middle. They also feature paddle shifts located behind it, and features mounted controls for Bluetooth, cruise and the music system. The hard top retracts back, but without folding in the centre. Instead it retracts back into the boot. It also features BMW's third generation Idrive feature that has a large clear screen that displays everything from the present track to the fuel economy and distance covered among others.

The screen pops out upon entering the cabin. Meanwhile the car has a boot space of 310 litres, when the hardtop is in place, and decreases to 180 litres, when the hardtop is retracted into the boot. The BMW Z4's 35i variant features aluminum axles, instead of the usual steel axles found in most cars. According to BMW, this helps to reduce the car's weight by as much as 30%, with the weight distribution being 50:50 for rear and front axle.

The BMW Z4 in India is a rear wheel drive. Combined with the car's light steering, this helps to make it great to drive around. The ride quality of the car is okay for the city. On highway, the riding is great when driving in the comfort mode. There is also a sports mode available, which also offers great handling, with a barely perceptible body roll.

In India, the BMW Z4 is available in only a single engine option. It is powered by a 3.0l 6 cylinder petrol engine that is capable of delivering a max power of 306bhp at 5,800rpm, and a peak torque of 400Nm generated between 1,300 to 3,700rpm. This engine is paired with an automatic 7 speed gear box, which also features launch control. The car has an acceleration rate of 0 to 100kmph in just 5 seconds, with a 242kmph top speed.

The brakes in this car are quite great, and are further assisted by a CBC or Corner Braking Control, EBD, ABS, DTC or Dynamic Traction Control, DBC or Dynamic Brake Control and Dynamic Stability Control. Safety features of this car include bumpers, which are Aluminum Impact Absorber, a steering wheel column that is collapsible, three point seat belts and twin air bags.

Fuel efficiency figures are 6.7kmpl in city, which increased to 10.2kmpl on highway. This car is also equipped with the Efficient Dynamics package available from BMW. The power steering is also quite efficient in operation, with the brakes equipped for regenerating energy that charge the battery of the car.

Even though this car has a low ground clearance, it is quite great to drive around, and is comfortable both on highway and in city. The open top feature of this car is also another great feature, not to mention its attractive looks. For the Indian auto market, BMW has offered only a single variant of the BMW Z4 that of the 35i. This variant is priced at INR 64,92,863, according to ex-showroom prices in Mumbai.
