Tata Indica is a hatchback vehicle range designed and engineered by India’s leading automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors. It’s the first passenger vehicle from the automaker and is also regarded as one of the 1st indigenously designed passenger vehicle of India. Since 2008, over 910,000 vehicles were produced and currently, they are marketed in Africa, Europe and other nations. When originally introduced, it prompted plenty of grumbles from early buyers, who claimed that it didn’t deliver gas mileage and horsepower as promised.
In response to customer complaints, the automaker redesigned its internals and introduced it Indica version 2 (V2) that solved many of the complaints and emerged as one of the most sought after vehicles in Indian automotive industry. The V2 was updated later dubbed Indica V2 Xeta with a Petrol engine that delivered 51kW of power with the fuel economy of 14 kilometers per litre under standard test situations. In Indian city situations, fuel economy can drop to about 10 kilometers per litre.
In India, the Tata Indica V2 provides good interior space and competes with Maruti Wagon-R, Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Hyundai Santro, the Fiat Palio and Maruti Alto. The diesel variants have little or no competition since some diesel vehicles exist in its price bracket. The little higher than average net weight makes for slightly more comfortable ride unlike lighter vehicles. Finish and fit continue be criticized unlike the offerings from Maruti and Fiat.

Motivation for the Tata Indica V2 comes from a 475 IDI 1405cc Intercool Turbodiesel powerplant, which is good for pulsating 71PS of power at 4500 rpm with 135 newton meters of torque at 3500 rpm. It also features a 1396cc Inline four-cylinder engine that generates 53.5PS of power at 5500 rpm with 85 newton meters of torque at 2500 rpm. All trim levels of Tata Indica V2 are teamed up with five-speed manual gearbox.
